You are a woman and you can be whatever you want to be

You are a woman and you can be whatever you want to be.

Today we are lucky to be able to choose what we want to be, how we want to dress, how we want to think, how we want to reconcile… In short, today, the vast majority of women are lucky to decide how they want to LIVE. And, for that, you should celebrate with pride that

YOU ARE A WOMAN AND you can be whatever you want to be

Today is, no doubt, a day to vindicate; vindicate for labor equality and for the recognition of our effort. Claim to get to change that part of society that rejects women in any place other than the care of their children and their house. That those who reflect the most stale sexism and believe that they have a right over us, finally open their eyes and understand that we are going to be what we want to be.

A day to vindicate the change, and that change starts with education. Educate ourselves to end male violence against women, teach us that labor equality is not an utopia, that the balance of family and work is possible. Educate ourselves, in short, in equality, equal opportunities, equality in the composition of jobs, equal participation in the education of our children. Equality so we do not have to give up our lives for taking certain decisions. Because only then we will complete the change. And, remember that the change starts in you.

And, though, I confess that there is a part of me that gets somehow melancholic when writing these lines and when I realize all that is left to be achieved, I know it is also a day to celebrate, celebrate that the way is done by walking it, and that if a path already exists, it is thanks to not giving up, to our hard work and to our perseverance. And that thanks to that, the truth is that ALL OF US have the right to be whatever we want to be and stand out for that.

Because being a hard-working woman means much more than going to work every day, because this day is not only celebrated for those who have a job, and I do not forget that it is also a day to give thanks. Thanks to all the grandmothers, mothers, daughters, neighbors, friends or workmates who, with their small-big gestures, have obtained impressive achievements. Those who did not remain silent before and act of sexism, who fought for our rights, those who have made our voice heard today. To all of you, thank you, because you have made us stronger and more determined, and we hope we can be for other women what you have been and are for us, a source of inspiration and pride.

And, in advance I ask for permission, but I’m sure you’ll grant me. Because today, I can not forget about my colleagues. Because we are 17 women working in Com-forsa, side by side. Each one of us is an essential gear to keep the work going. We help and support each other, we work together and we respect each other for being workmates and being WOMEN. Because we know what our struggle is and we know, also that, together we can.
